Waste to energy plant of Stoke-On-Trent

published on December 6, 2011

The purpose of the project was the refurbishment of an existing incineration plant to a waste to energy plant generating electricity.
The plant is designed to handle 180.000 tons/year of municipal waste. Two lines have the capacity to burn 12 tons/hour waste each with a NCV (Net Calorific Value) of 9.200 kJ/kg. The recovery boilers deliver overheated steam to a 14 MW turbo-generator. The combustion chambers are equipped with a non-catalytic DeNOx system. Each stream is fitted with two semi-dry lime scrubbers with lime milk injection and activated carbon injection and followed by bag house filters.
For this assignment, IBH had a ‘Design, Build, Finance and Operate’ contract.
