Waste management centre of San Sebastian

published on December 6, 2011

GHK is the developer of a Waste Management Center (CCRG), that has been set up by public authorities of the Gibuzkoa Region (Communes, Municipalities and Deputacion).

The Center in the vicinity of San Sebastian comprises a pre-treatment plant for municipal solid waste through a thermal biodrying process of 200,000 tons/year. This plant aims at a reduction of waste quantity of 27% and an increase of waste calorific value. Also in the CCRG, a Waste to Energy-plant will process biodryed waste and non-hazardous industrial waste via 2 lines of 16 tons per hour (240.000 tons/year) at 12.400 kJ/kg. This will result in steam production (45 bara and 400°C) and electricity generation (28 MWe). A royal decree (653/2003) also requires flue gas treatment. Auxiliary installations include bottom ashes treatment and valorisation, and metals recovery.
